Thanks for playing "The Final Challenge!"

I hope you like what you see, and to keep playing! If you do make that decision, you may want to consider using a MUD client. A MUD client is a program that makes playing the game much easier. A good client will allow you to set up triggers, which are actions that the client will make on your (character's) behalf when the client sees certain text, and aliases and macros, which are command shortcuts that you can set up that will perform the desired actions much more quickly with less typing. Some clients will also allow you to change the color of the text for certain phrases that you may want to call special attention to, or even sounds to alert you of certain events.

We suggest the following MUD clients. Most of our players play from Windows systems, so our experiences with non-Windows clients is much more limited.

  • Zugg's MUD Client - $29.95, as of 2006-02-11 - Windows client, used by many in the MUD community. Note that the newer versions require Administrative privileges on the computer you wish to install it on.
  • WinTin - Free - Another Windows client. It will install on Windows systems that you do not have Administrative rights on.
  • Powwow - Free - Unix client. This is the one I use. It is all command line driven, but if you're coming from a Unix system, you are probably used to this.
  • TinyFugue - Free - Unix client.

I'm afraid I have no advice to offer for Mac clients. We just don't see a lot of players coming from Macs.

And finally, a more definitive list of MUD clients.

Thanks again for playing!
