Tynian: Changes in Immortality

Many of you may be curious as to when we intend on lifting the freeze on
Immortal promotions. Our biggest priority is insuring basic stability of
the game, and allowing time for everyone to become more familiar with the
workings of version 3, before we start juggling the wizlist around. If
you qualify, you may start your quest for Immortality (HELP VOW). To
qualify, all of your active classes must be at level 30. There is one
exception that I was reminded of, due to an agreement made before the new
qualifications were set forth, which I am compelled to honor.
SUCCEEDING IN YOUR QUEST FOR IMMORTALITY AND BECOMING AN INITIATE DOES
**NOT** GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL BE PROMOTED TO AMBASSADOR. That is still
decided by the Implementation team, who has sole discretion on who is
promoted and retains management (Immortal) positions. I apologize for the
shouting, but I don't want that point to be missed. The following is my
general timeline:

1. Retire Immortals who are obviously inactive - Week of 10/27.
2. Ask for petitions from any FLIs wishing to become Neutral - I will post
a note to Immortals this week (10/27), petitions will be due Friday, 11/7.
3. Announce FLIs which have successfully petitioned for an alignment
change, if any - the weekend of Friday, 11/7.
4. Change alignment of FLIs which have successfully petitioned to be
Neutral - the weekend of Friday, 11/14.
5. Allow time for players to grow accustomed to version 3 changes - Now
until at _least_ 12/11/97. This time is dictated by RL demands on
my time.
6. Madman and I will review petitions for Immortality, as well as review
for possible Immortal promotions - sometime after 12/11/97.

It it extremely unlikely that this timetable would be moved up -- it can
only fall backward from here. For those of you that were surprised at
how aggressively I put up version 3, it was a matter of either putting it
up this or next weekend, or putting it up in the middle or end of
December. I have too much going on in November, and will count myself
fortunate if I am able to complete the above list and spend a little time
fixing fatal problems with TFC during the next month and a half. Other
than that, I will be unavailable, and Madman is likely to be unavailable
for periods during this time, as well.
