this was posted to the tfc mailing list, and i thought it was funny :)I took this directly off the mail I received confirming my enrollment to the
TFC LIST:
1. Keep the posts respectful. No name calling, no badgering, no flames.
2. If a list administrator asks you to drop a thread, drop it.
Some hints, for those of you who need further direction.
If you want your (Brilliant/not so brilliant) or (opinion/idea) to be
sincerely considered, take into consideration how you package it. It might
also be nice to consider how your words today might reflect upon you/your
idea/your opinion in the future.
First, a nice pretty card should top off your package. The card should be
free of slime, pk blood, mold, or yesterday's pizza. The card should be on
top of the package, and tells us who it is to, and possibly, what the
occasion is. It is one of the first things we see on your package. (When
applying this to your posts - keeps this in mind - A very catchy intro
paragraph works well. One that aptly summarizes your opinion/idea and
interests the reader into carefully considering your words.)
Hint #1: Don't top your package with a card that says "Open here you
idiot."
Hint #2: Don't be inflammatory with your words. "That idea sucks." or
"You suck" tends to alienate people. Who wants to go any further?
Hint #3: Be respectful of your readers, as well as those who might chose to
act/not act on your words.
We are smart enough to assess for ourselves judgments such as good, bad,
brilliant and stupid. A simple statement of logic without all the extras is
sufficient. Keep in mind that what you state is simply YOUR OPINION. A
nice clarification, i.e. "I feel this idea would not benefit the mud
because^Å" is more effective then "Your idea is stupid."
Hint #4: Signatures - (Ah - my pet topic!) Who did this package come from,
you, or (one of your) character(s)? (postscript - A gift from a secret
admirer is not always a bad thing.)
Hint #5: Don't sign your card "If you don't open my package and like it
I'll kill you." *Grin* (Ok - like, since when did a PK'er need an excuse??
*wink*)
Next, prepare your wrapping paper - also known as supporting evidence. In
most cases, keep it short and accurate. People get bored with long posts
and have a hard time finding the salient points. If they want more
information they can ask for it.
Wrap your package carefully in supporting evidence. The evidence should be
strong enough to contain the package and substantial enough that it doesn't
leak. (Think about what you say before you say it. I've enough regrets to
last a lifetime.)
Finally - top of you package with a nice snazzy bow. The bow should make a
nice statement about the package. It should summarize what the whole
package thing is about. Again, the bow should be free from grime and
grudge. The bow should say, look at me, I'm beautiful!
By the time I have unwrapped a nicely put together package - I've already
made an assessment about the contents, and the sender. If the package is
nicely put together, I may not agree with what the sender
gives me, but I certainly like the way they did it. I, for one, will
appreciate the care that went into the preparation.
(Ok like what is this girl talking about??) If for instance, you want Tynian
to consider an idea you have, or to NOT make a specific change, it might get
you further to pay attention to how you wrap your package.
This is from me, not my character(s) so I sign,
Respectfully,
Christine
